DIY Natural Makeup Setter

Why Natural Setting Spray is Better for Your Skin

woman with natural makeup
Without a quality primer and setting spray, it gets pretty difficult to keep makeup on during summer. The combination of sweat and heat melts away the pigment you’ve spent so much time applying. Setting spray really is the only way to solve this problem, but the conventional sprays that are available aren’t the healthiest product to be putting onto your skin. The best way to keep makeup in place and take care of your skin is to make your own all-natural makeup setters at home.

Most setting sprays initially feel sticky and heavy on the skin. They contain harsh chemical ingredients that act like glue to keep your makeup on all day without running. The sprays clog pores and work as antiperspirants by not allowing your skin to breathe or sweat properly. This can severely dry out skin, and cause irritation redness and peeling. The product staying clogged in pores for so long on a day-to-day basis can also lead to breakouts. Setting spray stays on the skin for hours and is difficult to remove without intense scrubbing. The additional hours that it spends trapped in pores means that your skin can eventually absorb the product, trapping harmful chemicals in the skin and bloodstream.

Natural DIY makeup setting spray can easily eliminate these issues while still working just as effectively as any chemical setter. Using natural ingredients is more beneficial to the skin because it provides moisture, and nutrients to the skin and body. Healthy plant based substances and water sticks to the face to keep makeup in place. The natural ingredients will still clog pores, but allows the skin the breathe and is far less likely to cause breakouts as keeping it on skin for multiple hours a day actually encourages skin health.

Aloevera is one of the best natural substances you can apply to the skin. It is moisturizing, and a natural antibacterial. It also contains vitamins like vitamin E and rich antioxidants that protect skin and keep it healthy. For this reason, aloe vera being trapped in pores on the face all day isn’t nearly the same as having chemicals trapped in the pores. If the skin and bloodstream absorbs the aloe vera, you can only benefit from the nutrients, as it has no negative side effects.

For an effective and healthy makeup setting spray, mix 1/3 of a cup of natural aloevera gel with 1 cup of water into a spray bottle. You can spray this on your face after you’ve done your makeup for a longer lasting wear and a moisturizing treatment. The aloe even helps to protect your skin from sun damage, making it the perfect makeup setter for warm weather. The consistency of the gel feels just as sticky and glue-like as any other make up setting spray, making it just as powerful. Because the mixture is mostly water, it dries quickly making it feel much lighter once the makeup and spray has set.
